I don't know what to say.....Just glad that the injuries weren't more severe.My regards to your wife!!!! Could not say what I would have done ........That's a big decision in seconds amount of time.

I am glad your wife is going to be OK and I know people say that you never know what you are going to do in that situation but I can honestly say that I believe just like I blieve there is a God in heaven and the sun is going to come up tomorrow that the only way that guy would of survived that was if I happened to miss.

At a MINIMUM I would have taken out a couple tires, a rear window and installed a leaky gas tank. It would have made his "vehicle description" real simple for the coppers to look out for. Not confronting him physically was a wise move because from your version of events he seemed like he could have been hopped up. When they're hopped up, even stiff punches to the head can be ineffective.
