4x4 advice needed
#1

G'day all,
Looking for some local advice....
I'm moving over your way soon and will need to buy a vehicle. After doing a fair bit of internet surfing, it seems most of the 4x4 trucks seem to be petrol powered (gas)
Ideally I'm after a Turbo Diesel Intercooled, is there anything on the market around the size or slightly smaller than an F150 with a Diesel donk?
We had the F250's available on our local market (Australia) for a few years during the 2000's, these came with either a 4.2L Cummins 6 cylinder or the 7.3L V8 Diesel. They weren't a bad vehicle, but the 7.3L was heavy on fuel.
I have attached a photo of my current drive, it's a Mazda BT50 (B3200P), it has a 3.2L 5 cylinder diesel and 6 speed manual and is slightly smaller in every dimension than the F150. Are these available over there under a different badge? They are also sold here with a Ford badge and marketed as a Ranger.
I'm thinking an F150 with gas V8 is about where I'm going to be, but interested to find out if I've missed something I should look at.

Well you are in luck. I believe this is the first year for f150 size trucks to come with diesels. Dodge ram and chevy 1500 should as well. No rangers over here from the factory anymore, they got axed, no factory diesel anyway. Diesels are few and far between, maybe a special run of 100-200 (did make tiny diesel rangers in the 80's in short runs) in a certain line for testing here and there. I would assume there are a few by now, all that comes to mind is the jeep liberty small SUV with a diesel. F250 size and larger have been available with diesels for years by the way. Maybe other people will know some more makes for you, I just drive old vehicles and don't really keep up with what all is available.

You can find several different brands of Trucks with a Deisel Engine....Dodge,Chevy,Ford and Toyota etc!Dont get in a hurry and shop around,if You want a tougher off road truck the Toyote Range Rovers are really nice and We don't have as many rough roads here in the USA!

dodge has brought out the 1500's with a eco-diesel, 24 mpg from a full sized 4x4, BTW this is what I drive

'03 5.9 CTD 24 valve, 6 speed manual, averages right around 20 mpg running empty
RR
edited to add: reports are that Nissan is bringing out a cummins powered frontier (midsize truck) in 2015
