Cool Hunting Pictures 2004

Okay folks, here is your chance to show off some of your cool hunting photos from the field this year. What we're looking for is not pictures of animals that you harvest this year, but rather other cool, humorous, or otherwise interesting pictures you get while in the field this fall. Anything ranging from deer sightings from your treestand to cool photos of scenery to pictures of you and your hunting buddies sitting around the campfire telling deer stories. All photos of animals harvested or trailcam pictures can still be posted in the Bowhunting Forum. At the end of the season the HuntingNet.com Staff will choose what we feel to be the best picture submitted and the chosen winner will be receiving a prize. The nature of the prize is undetermined at this time, but you can rest assured that the President of HuntingNet.com, Mr. Todd Graf, is certainly going to make it something any one of us would be very thankful to have. So even if you don't think you've got the world's greatest hunting photos, we want to see them anyways. Don't be shy with the photos!

*Please don't post any comments or replies to photos submitted in this Forum. Let's try to keep this for photos only, if you have comments to make please do so in the Bowhunting.com Forum. All posts not containing photos will be removed.*

For those of you who are unfamiliar with how to post photos, here is a quick tutorial:

Size limitations for photographs:

While we would all love to have superfast internet connections and unlimited bandwidth, for many people that simply isn't a possibility. So for purposes of quicker and smoother loading we ask that all pictures posted are limited to 640 x 480 pixels. This will allow more pictures to load on a single page in a reasonable amount of time for the people who happen to have slower internet connections. If you post a picture larger than 640x480 you will be asked to remove it from the thread. This rule goes not just for this particular thread, but all threads in this Forum. If you wish to put up a link to a higher-resolution picture for people to click on, we have no problems with that. Just don't hotlink the picture into the thread so everyone has to see it.

Futhermore, we recommend that everyone only uses pictures in .jpg or .gif format. Other formats tend to be very large in size and take a long time to load, no matter what pixel dimensions they happen to be. If you need to convert files from one format to another, here is a link to a free graphic converter that will take any of your .bmp, .tiff, or other image styles and convert them to .jpg or .gif.

Free Easy Graphics Converter

Linking pictures into your post:

The best way to post pictures in any thread is to use your own picture hosting services and then "hotlink" the picture into your post. This way the picture is being loaded off your personal server or from your hosting service, and it doesn't increase the already tremendous bandwidth usage of this board. Hosting your own pictures allows the Forums to continue running faster and smoother for everyone who uses them. This also allows you to post as many pictures as you want in one post.

For those of you who don't have web hosting already, or for those of you looking for a good free place to host images try http://www.imageshack.us Their picture hosting is free, and very easy to use. Simply sign up using a valid email address, they send you notification on how to log in to your account, and you can start hosting pictures. If you have any problems using their service, trying visiting their FAQ Page for helpful tips.

Once you have your picture hosted or uploaded to your server, posting it into a thread is easy. Simply copy the URL to your clipboard, hit the "image" button that appears in the menu above your message field, then paste the URL in between the [ image ] tags that appear.

When you're done, it should look something like this (without the spaces):

[ image ] URL to your picture ex: http://yoursite.com/deer.jpg [ /image ]

If you are using imageshack.us, your URL will look something similar to this "http://img71.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img71&image=103199.jpg" with the last part of the URL being the filename of the photo you will be linking to. In this case the filename is "103199.jpg"

Feel free to put captions underneath your photos so we all have a good idea of what they contain.

Attaching photos to a post:

Up until now the size restrictions placed on attaching photos to your posts have been rather limited and thus prevented a lot of people from uploading quality pictures. As of today we have upped the size restrictions on attached photos from 30kb to 100kb. This should allow users to upload much better pictures for the rest of us to enjoy. If you're unable to host your own photos or you can't seem to get the hang of inserting them into a thread, the attachment feature is definitely for you.

Simply check the "Embed picture in post" option that appears below the message field, then click on the "Click here to upload!" link located directly to the left of the Embed picture checkbox. When you do this, a popup window will appear that asks you to browse your computer and select the picture you wish to attach. Locate the picture you want to upload, click the "OK" button, and you're all set. Just press the okay button at the bottom of your reply screen and your picture will appear in your post. Keep in mind that you can only attach one photograph per post and the only valid picture formats are .jpg and .gif. You cannot attach any other photo types through this feature.

Hopefully that covers any and all questions you may have on how to post pictures, so let the contest begin! If you have any questions or comments, please post them in the Technical Help Forum and we will be glad to assist you. We all certainly look forward to seeing some of the exciting pictures from this season's adventures! Good luck and good hunting to everyone!

-Justin

Just to get things started off, here's a couple pictures from my first weekend of hunting in Wisconsin.

The view from my stand on opening morning.

Our home away from home for the hunting season.

Mike (dukemichaels) checking out a little waterfall we found while doing some scouting.

Mike pondering the great mystery that is deer behavior and how to get close to that elusive spike buck. :D

Your truely setting up a CamTrakker, and making a funny face while doing it.

And last but not least, the heart and soul of Team #20. :D

Ok, not really a hunting picture but... last fall, this squirrel knocked off and ate all the pears off of our pear tree! One day, after going rabbit hunting, i found him dead with his teeth still clamping down on the wire.

This thing was stuck on the wire for a week. We had to call the city to knock him down.

Bowhunting in Alaska a few weeks ago. The haze is from smoke that blew down from record forest fires near Fairbanks. The Mulchatna River flows in the background.

Our trip's many highlights included this moment when we lured bull caribou in from 400 yards, using a shed antler we found moments earlier. We couldn't bring him closer than 50 yards, which was beyond our abilities.

My brother and I watched this female albino last fall in Butler County, PA.
Over the winter she disappeared for a while.
When she returned she had an injured back leg.
She disappeared again this spring, when she returned she had still had the leg injury along with 2 fawns, 1 brown and 1 white.

I apologize for so many pictures, I couldn't decide on just 1.

Here are three pictures from my 2004 Colorado elk hunt. One is a picture of me standing with the Flattops behind me. One is a picture of my hunting buddies around a mountain campfire. The other is a picture I took with a disposable camera. I was sitting above a sheer drop overlooking a huge valley. I had just set my bow down in front of me and was heating a cup of water with my Esbit stove for coffee. I noticed the clouds were casting huge shadows on the valley and far mountains and tried to catch it all in one photo. I wish my digital had been in my pack. And no there are no elk photos to go along with the others, but the hunt was great anyway.

Colorado Flattops

Mountain Campfire

Forge F2, Folgers Coffee and Cloud Shadows in the Colorado Mountains. It doesn't get any better.
