2018 Squirrel Contest!!
Alright, time to sign up, set teams, and start posting pictures.
2017 was a good year for the contest. Over 100 replies, 11 pages, and 10,000 views on the thread. Let's keep that going and grow bigger this year. Get your squirrel hunting friends involved as well. We have some members with almost year around squirrel seasons. . The contest will run until the end of the year, and next January we will start the new years contest. Anyone can sign up anytime. We had allot of squirrels entered in this past contest, allot of participation. Hope to see another good year here. Invite your friends. Same as before, Any DEAD (ALLEYYOOPER will personally inspect each squirrel to ensure that it has in fact ceased to be alive.... )Squirrel, by any legal methods. Post a picture of your squirrel, preferably with gun/bow for it to be counted. If you need to skin them before you can get a picture, just post the skinned ones. As more sign up, I'll add them to the teams! Also If anyone has youth hunters that are not members of the site, but would like to be in the contest, just Pm me and we'll add them with you on your team. We've had this in the past a few times and have had some PMs asking about it. -Jake 1. Bocajnala 2. Longhunter1750 3. Jrbsr 4. Solocamper 5. John1984 6. bzlytbeer 7. Sasquatch85 8. 9. 10. Sign me up! Last season I wasted all the prime squirrel hunting weather trying to kill a deer with a crossbow. The seasons are almost concurrent here. Sorry for signing up for something and then not contributing.
|
Got you added SC! And no worries. Just post what you can. All for fun!

Add me also if ya will.

Does this include all squirrels, or only the ones harvested for the table?
I ask, because MI has an open season on red squirrels and I've taken 20+ over since June 1. Those flea-infested little tree rat ba$tards are destructive as hell. Last year my daughter begged me to let them live, and being a good father I obliged - only to discover last November that they ate the seats on my treestands - no more mister nice guy. I hunt them with an air rifle (.177 but I just scoped a .22 yesterday), quieter and more challenging than the .22lr... |
I suppose we could count your tiny red pine squirrels but you'd have to show legit pictures.
But,,,,,,We prefer to see pics of your future dinner. Not Wanton Waste |
Sorry that I've been absent folks. I'll get caught up this weekend.
Any legally harvested squirrel is acceptable. -Jake |
Pine squirrels are referred to as 'tree rats' for two reasons - they eat everything hence their destructive little ba$turds and they (at least to me and quite a few other folks) - taste like crap (i.e., rat). If you would like me to take the time to skin and process a tree rat, so you can taste it, then I'll gladly save them for you and send you a gallon ziplock bag (I should be able to fit 40 hind quarters in a gallon bag). If you pay for S&H and agree to post a photo of you barfing when you eat them, just send me you address and I'll send you some tree rat...
And Wanton Waste? Please - whenever they see one fall out of a tree, my cats pounce and eat them for a snack... |

Can I get added in on this? |
I'll get caught up with everything when I get to a desktop later today.
Ohio opened this past Saturday .I took the 5y.o. boy out for two hours in the am. Saw several deer but no squirrel. It's been in the 90s here all well. I'm done until we get some 60 deg days. -Jake |

Good harvest guys...I haven't gone squirrel huntin' yet this fall, because I'm hoping for a October frost, that would remove the warblers under some of the squirrels skins.
But here in Maryland: It's illegal too lean a firearm up against a tree, fence or vehicle. |
Erno, could you show me a link where it says that in the regulations?
I see it's illegal to lean against a vehicle. "

Though I'm sorry...my bad --- I rechecked the Maryland hunting regulation book and you're correct --- My sincerest apologies to the poster/posters and this forum. -Erno |
But It's still good hunting safety protocol --- "to avoid leaning a loaded firearm up against a tree or anything else." --- Especially with a hunting dog running around. If if it falls over or slides down, it could fire.

Always best to be safe . I was just curious if that law was actually printed somewhere. I've heard it before, especially the leaning against a vehicle part. -Jake |
