Team 6 ~ Zero Dark Turkey
#52

Ok brothers I must be honest I am going after my first turkey with a bow.
I am very sorry if I don't produce this year but after 7 birds with a gun it is time.
I have been very fortunate to have never had a year with out a Tom so i have committed to bringing in an Old Boy in close this season.
I know that is not what ya want to hear but I hope ya understand this season.
Go get um my friends I am here with ya!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Luck Treebeard. My best advice I can pass along is invest in good decoys. The foam decoys worked fine from me when plugging them with a shotgun at 25-40 yards. But some DSD's will be worth their weight in gold when going after then with a bow, IMO. I like to get them close, within 5 yards, and have them interact with my decoys while I watch the show, come to full draw, and wait for a good shot. That interaction isn't happening with the foamies.

Welcome Tankdogg60! And good luck Treebeard. I think about using my bow every year but lately it's been tough enough just to get birds with the shotgun. Maybe I'll switch to the bow after I get the first bird down.

Thanks everyone! Our season in the low state starts this Friday! Heading down tomorrow, I can't wait! My girlfriend is up to bat first, hopefully I'll be up soon after! I'll be in SC mostly, but probably hitting AL and NC again this year as well! We were blessed with two slammers there last year! Good luck to everyone!

Treebeard, have you seen the bullhead broadheads? They are like the guillotine, but better (IMO). They are stronger, fly better, and a lifetime warranty on the heads. If your sighting in and you skip one across the dirt and bent a blade...just send it in for a replacement. Here is a link:

The one thing I will warn you about with those types of broadheads (guillotine or bullhead) is you HAVE to hit them in the head. My buddy and I both use them and we typically video our hunts too. Here is a little video of a hunt of mine last year. You can also see the how the birds interact with our decoys and you can also see when you are just an inch too low with those types of heads.

It is such a blast, I can't wait for spring season to roll around. Behind bowhunting the rut, this is next best I think. Good luck
And welcome tankdogg, good luck this weekend.

Thanks Zubba for the tips and the word on the product.
Maybe I should just use a broad head on my first archery bird.
I never would have thought it would bounce of him like that tough old birds hey!
lol I am getting second thoughts after that video
