Way to go Bornagain!!! I knew yer persistance would pay off sooner or later! Congrats to you and your brother! Still waiting for my first double, hopefully me and dad can make it happen in a couple weeks!
|
Cool pics Phil! Is all yer snow still gone? Turned white again over nite, and more to come over the next few days here. Winter just won't let go this yr! Wondering how its gonna effect my season. Lookin like there wont be a spring this yr. We're gonna go right from winter to summer i guess.

The snow is still lingering in the woods here. But, for the most part around the openings and such it is gone now. Friday we are supposed to get a wintery mix and then some decent temps again. I am hoping that the turkeys will slow down just a bit until later next week to get going again. That first week of turkey season is my annual vacation week and it is looking like it is going to be an excellent week for me. That is as long as the weather is ok for it.

Nice pictures, He will be running to your calls in a couple of weeks.
I know some of you guys are bummed and waiting for your season to start. I am getting a little bummed knowing mine is almost over. 5 weeks is just not long enough. I will be back out at the spot I got birds at with my brother, still have a camera out and will check and see if there are any birds left in the 2 areas we like to hunt. If not I will be hunting and scouting at the same time. It is a 4 day hunt some I am confident I can find some birds, just have to get them in range and out it all together. Who else is hunting know? We start Monday in MO. I've been listening to birds every morning on some of our farms on my way to work. The birds are still grouped up on one of our farms. Stood on my back porch the Tuesday morning and heard 3 gobble. Dad is seeing turkeys in our alfalfa field every day. That's were DTC Jr killed his bird during our youth season. There has been 3 different gobblers in there but I won't hunt that, I save that for him.

Nice pictures, He will be running to your calls in a couple of weeks. I know some of you guys are bummed and waiting for your season to start. Actually I am not that bummed out as the turkeys are just now starting to get going. So that is great news to me. Last year they started around a month earlier so it should be an easier hunt for most of us up this way. I will just have to stay back a ways from all the other hunters hunting this area. That should actually make it a little better for me as the turkeys will be running right back to me.. Good Luck to you as well DTC I hope you have some great success as well as a nice story to tell us all.. |

The mouth call seemed to do better than the box call...Still have till mon till opening day..then we can go out and try to get one! or two if possible... |

Good Luck to you DTC, I hope to hear a great story on how one of those toms came running up to your decoys so that you could nail him..
I took a ride yesterday morning and saw 20 turkeys.. They were all broken up and not all together. I saw 2 toms and 3 hens in the biggest grouping. In total I saw 2 jakes and 5 toms out of all those turkeys. I am hoping for a little greenery to start showing. This would really get them moving good if it happens around the week before my hunting starts. Now we have snow falling! Go figure and we are supposed to get a mix of snow, ice, and rain over the next 2 days to come. This should slow things down a little I am hoping.. |
Going to try something a little different this Sunday. My neighbor works for a tire company and does alot of tractor tires. Well he talked his way into what looks like a nice piece of property. The farmer said to get out there and shoot every last turkey on his land. All for the price of a 12pack of Old milwaukee light. We will see how it turns out but now being shotgun season my plan is to be more aggressive.
