Sorry Hoyt. I misread one of your earlier posts...I thought you were hunting in LA, and after your post, I realized your hunting in Louisa COUNTY...doh...

Anybody been out and chased some birds?

I don't get out until the middle of May...

I have just hunted NC so far. SC trip got cancelled & I will hunt VA later in the season. Have heard plenty of birds, most are roost gobbling & then nothing else. Called in a couple of gobbling & strutting jakes on Saturday. Hopefully they will grow up for the future.

Saturday was a short hunt...daughters 4th bday. Monday I called in a beautiful 25# plus within 50 yrds and he froze up. He was checking out the hen and Jake decoy for about 10 minutes but wouldnt come within that magic range. Another 5 or 7 yrds and I would have laid him down.

This morning I set up my blind on the opposite side of field and had decoys in food plot. I hooted before sunrise and heard him gobble a couple times, even called him in to within 50-75 yrds but never got a sight on him. It was like he just froze up, stopped gobbling and dissappeared.

There is still tomorrow, and this is where I have my trail cam. I know there are at least two in this spot, but if I can get them to show there feathers its a different story.

Huntinlady...

Congrats. That bird looks like a whopper---at least 25lbs!!

Also, Tarheel Turkey dropped me a PM. We're on the board with an official bird!!

16 lbs. 3 ozs.
RS- .7500 LS-.6875
Beard- 10.785

total score: 52.3125

Tarheel will post pics and the story in a few days...

Good bird! Congrats to all that have succeeded so far. i've been outwitted all week long with several longbeards. I see them, communicate with them, but have not had an ethical shot yet. I've been trying with Bow for a few trips, but the Mossberg is coming out tomorrow morning and Saturday.

Will post pics and scoring ASAP!
