Okay guys, I connected with a lil jake this morning. He's nothing to write home about, but it was a pretty tough hunt all the same. My buddy and I walked way deep into a WMA today. Started before first light and NOTHING was answering the owl, switched to a crow, again nada. Finally, got a single gobble in response to a box call well after sun-up. We set up probablywithin 100-150 yards of where we heard the gobble. I put a jake and hen deke near where thisroad opens into a field and we set up on opposite sides of the trail. I called and heard NOTHING. After maybe 20 minutes, I figured maybe that bird moved on and we should get after him. I typically hit a locator before I move, in case the bird is sneaking in slow. I hit the crow call and heard nothing. Usually when I hit the locator, my buddy starts getting ready to move. This time, he was focused on the field and pointed. I figured okay, somethings there that I can't see. After another 10 min or so, I started seeing a white head bobbing in the distance. He came in S-L-O-W. I didn't even think he would come the distance. He was obscured by brush or grass half the time and I kept losing sight. He stayed quiet. Finally, he came a few yards closer to the decoys and gave me a clear shot and I took it. 39 yards and that Hevi-Shot dropped him like a sack of potatoes. I felt bad cuz my bud never has gotten a bird, but he was 10 yards further from him than I was and I got the feeling he wasn't gonna stick around. Later my bud said he saw what he thought was a hen way on the other side of the field when he was pointing. We probably both started seeing thejake about the same time.Anyway, a whole 32.5 more points for us. I'll be looking for a better bird in CT, got the rest of the month and I'll prolly get out a few more times.

Got another one this morning. 21 Pounds, 10.25" beard, .75" spurs on both legs. Good for 56.5 points! My favorite spot didn't let me down after all!
