Hello everyone,
New to the forum, new hunter as well. My father passed a couple years ago and left me pretty much everything of his. He left me 4 recurve bows that I remember shooting with him as a boy so they are prized possessions to me. I could really use your help dating these.
I am fairly certain of 2 of them, they are left and right handed black bears with the raised medallion. The Left hander appears to have a silver color medallion but I thought only the gold colored were raised, the right has a gold color medallion. Both are 60" the Left is 30# and the right 25#'s. The serial numbers start with KL39*** and KL-71***. The logo on the lower leg is a standing bear (I dont know if its small or large because I have nothing to compare it too). It doesnt say Glass Powered under the bear logo but it has the grayling, Michigan marking but with the US Patent no date, no canada with date.
The third which really has me puzzled is a 60" 55# bear cub with front laminate (?) in a pee soup green and back laminate (?) in an of white almost bone color. It has a leather wrapped handle and the medallion is flat shaped and black. The serial number 14AF***. The logo on the lower leg is a standing bear (I dont know if its small or large because I have nothing to compare it too). It doesnt say Glass Powered under the bear logo but it does have the 1953 canada patent and grayling, Michigan marking. As you can tell I read the how to date a bear bow but it left me lost still. On the front of the upper arm it does say Bear Glass Powered Cub.
I saw the writes up on how to date the Bears and the cub really has me puzzled.
The fourth bow is a Darton Dart recurve 60R with a 4 digit serial number starting with 14** its 50" with a 24# draw. This was my bow as a kid and I dont think its nearly what the Bears are but Id still love to know what you guys know about them.
Thank you from a very new member,
Brett
