spitting and other problems with the mouth call
Last year I bought a 2 pack of Beginner’s diaphragm calls. I trimmed one up to what I thought was a good fit and started practicing. Well I was able to makes some sounds and started getting the hang of it a little bit. Well then I tried the un-trimmed one so see how I could do with that and found out I had trimmed the other call way too much. I then switched to the un-trimmed call for practicing and the one that I trimmed is ruined. These calls have a plastic dome that you place against the roof of your mouth to use. Now I have switched to a single reed regular (no dome) call and I am having some problems. The first is spit flights all over the place (you should see when I try to practice at the computer). Also it seems as if the sounds are much more difficult to make with the regular call and I have to force more air over the call to get it to work. I can yelp okay and cluck a little I still don't think it will convince a tom.
Any help you guys can give would be appreciated, I know there are a lot of post about the mouth calling, I have read most of them in the last month and a half and haven't seen anything to address my problems. I know you guys have a wealth of knowledge to help us new guys out!
Also what is a fighting purr? I have heard guys on TV and tapes do a fast purr with a cut or cluck at the end is that what is known as a fighting purr?
