When the 7mm ultra mag was made available in 2002 I believe, there were 2 factory rounds for it, 140 somethings, and 160 somethings made by Remington. I know a couple guys who have them and love them, of course they handload, and are getting some blazing speeds out of them, and also some tremendous recoil, all while burning close to 100 grains of powder. I was tempted to get one, buy bought a 7mm STW instead. Does just about all the ultra mag will do, with less kick and less powder. I already had a .280, and I personally didn't feel the short 7's will gain me anything noticable over that caliber, so I just decided to go really big. Mostly for fun shooting at the range though.
