Default Firing pin damage?

I had wanted to practice dry firing, but I heard that dry firing without any shell in chamber can cause damage to the firing pin. My question is, is it all right to dry fire using fired shell brass. Theres already a dimple in the primer from the first shot, but is this all right, and safe for the firing pin? Thanks for any replies.
