I "also" want to know if you've ever faced a chargeing brown bear??????????????? Did you try the method you described????????????????? I say NO you have not!!! Your still here, and that gave me my first clue!! :>

rob 1,
Like i said in my first post, NO cal. with expanding bullets is going to penetrate a big bears skull with a glanceing hit!!!! That's a FACT!!!
YES a 375 H&H has a lot of power!!! BUT, a 375 H&H 270 grain softpoint will NOT penetrate as well as a 30 cal. 200 grain NP!! That's a fact too!!!
The story you describe mostly tells us how bad the shooting was on that day!!!!
It doesn't make diddly crap how much power you have if the bullet won't break the bear down or if the bear isn't hit properly!!! ONLY good shooting skills and a deep penetrateing expanding bullet is going to do that well!!!!
This is why i'd rather have a good 30 cal. than a BAD 375 cal. in THIS case!!!!! I think your missing that point!!! To stop a chargeing bear you need to break the bear down, NOT just have a lot of power!! You have to break both front shoulders, OR the back, OR have a well placed hit to the head!!! Blowing one shoulder and the heart (or any other internal organ) to pieces just isn't going to do it!!! They live too long with that kind of a shot!!
How do i know all of this???? Because i lived in and hunted in Alaska for 25 years and hunted big bears a LOT! I've seen enough of them shot and killed to know what i'm talking about. And yes i've shot them myself.
I'm always amazed by all the answers to questions like this one, and 99.9% of the posters have NO experience to back up what they are posting!!!
