Default RE: ? for CAYUGAD

The one .54 caliber I was talking about in my earlier post that needs a wonder wad to shoot right, is a CVA Mountain Stalker which is the same thing as a Bobcat and is sold by Bass Pro Shop. I had a terrible time getting that rifle to tune in. What I finally learned is it likes a strong load and a wonder wad. In the CVA Mountain Stalker of mine it likes 80 grains of Triple Se7en, a wonder wad and then a moosemilked patched roundball. With that combination it is an excellent shooting rifle. I took three deer with it the first year.

I will warn you that because these rifles are so light (a little over 5 pounds) the recoil can get nasty. I finally took the butt plate off the rifle and some #4 Buck shot. I put a little over a pound of buck shot in a vaccum sealer bag and sealed the shot in it. Then I took another bag and sealed all of that in there. I stuffed some rags down in the bottom of the hollow stock and then put the vaccum sealed bags in there and another small cloth and put the butt plate back on. That extra weight really took the bite out of the rifle and made it a lot nicer to shoot....

I did put a hot shot nipple on the rifle and I shoot CCI Magnum #11 caps or RWS 1075 caps and have never had a problem with it as long as I only swab with pure isopropyl alcohol before loading the first time and any time there after that I want to swab. That is a great little rifle you have there....
