A few suggestions:

1) Stick with a traditional facemask, just because if you're anything like me you probably "misplace" a facemask or two (along with pairs of gloves) each season.

2) For the skeeters and blackflies, get a thermocell. Can't be beat.

3) If you're really falling asleep, consider getting a packable seat. HS strut seat sells for ~$15 now, and should give you years of use.
