Any pump action shotgun would do for a good first time shotgun. I personally just bought a Mossgerg 500 Combo for 300 including Tax. It came with a Field Barrel for shooting shot and a rifled barreled for shooting slugs.

I love my Mossberg so far. I didn't have to pay an arm and a leg for it either.
