go w/ the 300 mag. I have a 300win. mag. my brother a 7rem. mag. they are both bonafide elk calibers, but the 300 is a step up in power, itll do the same things as the 7mag except do it w/ a bigger bullet. bigger animals demand bigger bullets, the 300 does that over the 7mag(which is still a good elk caliber, just not the best in this case).
