RE: AR in NY? Not for me
I started this thread primarily to voice my opposition to AR because of the idea that it promoted a trophy hunting mentality that I believe is bad for the sport in the long run. After reading the thoughts of a lot of other people here, I realize that there are some other very good reasons to be oppose AR as well. My opposition to AR could now be summarized by the following 3 items:
1) Promotes trophy hunting mentality (again nothing wrong with being a trophy hunter, I just think that it can be a bad thing for hunting if there is too much emphasis on it)
2) Increases risk of ultimately lowering average rack quality by inadvertantly protecting inferior racked bucks.
3) Basically increases chances of only 1 1/2 year old bucks to advance to next age class where other alternatives increase chances for all age class bucks to advance. (which is where the true trophy potential lies)
Looks like interest in this thread is waning so I want to thank everyone for their comments, even those of you who don't agree with me.
(I'm surprised no one had anything to say about my buck every other year idea!)
