RE: remington 710
The last time I looked at my local Wally-World the M710 was running $325, the M700 ADL synthetic was $375. $50 well spent if you ask me. I picked up my ADL .243Win at Wally clearanced for $275 brand, and I've seen ADL's used for as low as $275 and even BDL's for $350 on occation. I can't see one good reason to rush out to buy a 710 when for the same amount or $25-50 more one can get a new or used M700.
Oh, and contrary to JOE-BEEF's fallacious and malicious opinion, I'm not exactly made of money. If I were "Mr. Money Bags" I'd have a safe full of Sako's and/or custom guns, not M700's. Since money doesn't grow on any tree I've ever owned, I find it important to spend what limited money I have on guns with both quality and value rather than wasting it on a sub-par rifle like the M710. I apologize if I touched a nerve, as my statement wasn't meant as a personal attack on you (Joe) like yours was toward me. Is it my fault that you made a poor choice when you bought your 710 and now regret it and feel bad when I call a proverbial spade a spade and give my opinion of the worth of the M710 (or lack thereof)? If you like your M710, then keep it and use it. As I also mentioned earlier, it is a functional utility rifle. As for me, it is my OPINION (I'm entitled to mine as much as you're entitled to yours) that the M710 is the biggest POS bolt rifle out there today and I wouldn't own one if one were offered to me for free. I would rather save a few months and buy an M700. If my M700 ever breaks or wears out it can be repaired or rebuilt. Ask your gunsmith if he'll rebarrel your 710 and see what he says. I'll bet he'll tell you to buy a new rifle. The fact of the matter is that the M710 is a disposable rifle that is OK until it wears out, but then it's worthless. My M700's will retain most of their value as long as I'm alive, and my kids will still be able to enjoy them after I'm gone (even if that is a couple shot out barrels down the road).
Peace.
Mike
