If the weather is hot the elk will be near if not in the water that is available. North faces of hills/mountains are where those buggers bed down at during the heat of the day. I would start high and glass any draws that go down into the bottom areas. You may be able to pattern the elk and set-up in a place that they are passing by in order to get a shot.
