i would go with the 06, it has been proven to be one of the most best all round gun a guy can buy, no sense buying a gun that you think might not quite do the job, i know of guys that use the 7mm to hunt moose and have been succesful, so i am sure that elk would be no problem as well, but i still think the 06 is the best, thats just my opinion.
