I bought a Remington 710 .30-06 this year and think it's a great rifle for the money. Looked at the Savage package gun, but favored the stock on the 710 over the Savage. The Remington stock was smooth and rounded versus a more squared shape on the Savage. One of those "fit" issues you always read about.
I've put about 100 rounds throught it testing various ammo. No problems whatsoever. The bolt isn't the smoothest in the world, but I guess that is to be expected for an inexpensive rifle. I found accuracy to be less than 2" at 100 yards using the ammo it likes best....150gr Federal Sierras.
Got 2 deer with it this year, which is about 2 more than some posts indicate you would ever be able to get with this rifle.

I have not, however, been able to determine if using an "ugly" gun adversely affected my hunting experience. On the other hand, I am quite sure that the marketing boys love to hear how the "POS" guns just aren't worth it. That's how you end up selling Hummers to Arnold wanna-bees so they can drive to the market to pick up a gallon of milk.
