Your shooting ratio on doves
I don't know if a lot of other guys out there do this, but I like to keep stats in my mind of how well I do on the first shot, the second and (grimace) the third shots of doves. Kind of tells me if I'm using my first shot effectively, or just using it to "sight in" for the second shot (a no-no).
I'm not a bad shot on a trap/skeet range--can usually go out and bust 75-80%.
But with doves I tend to hit about 20% of my first shot, 30% of my second shot and around 20% again on the third. The limit here in Idaho is 10 birds, and two boxes of twenty five 7 1/2's normally satisfy. Though not always.
I never thought it was fair that the hunting season kicks off with the hardest bird to hit.
