Why is it ok to go and kill and animal that you have raised and then kill it.
Because you own them.
People go to jail all the time for shooting cats and dogs but yet its alright to go kill another pet of yours.
I don't really consider cows and chickens pets. Also, haven't seen that many people with any good cat recipes.

Exactly. The state typically owns the wildlife. You buy a deer and put him in a pen, he's yours. Shoot him if you want cause you own him.
