Default RE: Any one from Colorado

Well, I said I would tell you guys of my archery hunt last week. I'll give you the two highlights. Last Thursday morning it was raining all night on Wednesday and major fog in Yampa Valley. This is my second year of arhcery hunting and I was by myself and bugled in a very nice 5x5. I nelt behind a small pine tree and it was no more than 10 yds. away. When it was in the lane that I was going to shoot, it caught my sent and bolted. Instead of shooting in heart, I hit the bull and the end of his lungs. I cow talked and he stoped and laid down 50 yds. away from me. I was so excited I called my best friend in Denver on my cell phone while I was in the woods looking at the Bull. It was like Play by Play telecast.

The bull got up in an hour and walked into the timber. I waited 2 1/2 hrs. and then followed the blood trail. It was like the yellow brick road. Then it stopped as I exited the timber to find one small spot. Did the circle thing for couple of hours and couldn't find any blood. Decided to go to the bottom of the draw and zig-zag my way back up. Couldn't find anything. I forgot to tell you that the draw the elk was in had ferns up to my waist and I'm 6'2".

Looked the next day and couldn't find. I really feel bad that I couldn't find the bull. Never lost one before. Also, I was so excited and proud of myself and now I feel like I did something wrong.

On Saturday, hunting with my best friend's nephew and we "buddy hunt". It really works. I called in a bull over a 30 minute period...the bull was broadside of my friend at 20 yards but he didn't shoot. Too small he said being a scronny 4x3 bull. I told him I respect that and damn, wasn't that exciting and the buddy systment works just like on the tapes.

Stay loose and shoot straight...I'll tell you about my hunt in S.D. in early Nov.
