Need Help for Caribou Hunt
Hi, I need some help in finding an outfitter for the first week of winter caribou hunting in Quebec.
This past season a group of 11 of us went the first week in Dec. We Booked with Northern Caribou Adventures.
The weather was really cold 13F to -17F below.
Snow was nearly waist deep.
The big bulls had nearly all shed, no one in our group even saw a big bull with both antlers.
The up side is that we hunted hard off road by walking snowmobile trails and all of us got two nice animals each, although none had massive antlers some were fair.
NCA was very adequate for us to stay with and the outfitter was very helpful,he packed out some of our animals etc.
But... about all we got was a furnished trailer and an area to hunt for 11 guys At 1150.00 each plus license for a total of 1400.00 each
My point is it seems to me that 12,650.00 for 3 nights stay in a primative trailer,is a littly pricey to say the least.
I believe that if we had gone a couple weeks earler,we would have gotten some big bulls.
Does anyone know an outfitter that charges less than NCA, we are a tough bunch and only require minimum accomidations.
We would prefer a rough outpost cabin etc.
If we go this year, there will only be 6 in the group.
We are interested in Big antlers, not nessairly trophy class, just some nice big representative animals.
Any advice, tips etc. would be appreciated.
I also want to add that we quartered ,bagged and packed out all of our own animals, with the exception of the two that I killed.
I was back in 5K and had them quartered and was dragging them out on a sled when the outfitter come by on a snowmobile and finished hauling them out to the vehicle.
Actually the next time I go I will be sure to take my own snowmobile.
The area we hunted had packed snowmobile roads that went back 51k into the bush, the trails were great and the long tracks were not necessairy.
Help guys, we need a cheap hunt for some poor Hillbillys!
