How about elaborating on your reply? I know that Ruger used to have a convertible single action revolver that had cylinders for 22 lr and 22 wmr. They obviously used the same barrel.
Ruger Single Sixes come with a cylinder for .22LR and .22 magnum, but the barrel is dimensioned for .22 magnum. If it were safe to shoot .22 LR in a .22magnum chamber, Ruger wouldn't go through the added expense of fitting a .22 LR cylinder for their revolvers.
