You don't need to spend that much to get a pretty good unit. The color models are up around $400-500 and more and the GPS combo fish finders start at around your price range. I don't know what type of boat you have or the type of fishing you want it for. I have a bass boat and use a Lowrance X55A which does the job for me. Other good manufactorers are Eagle (a subsidiary of Lowrance), Humminbird, Bottom Line and Garmin.
