RE: Pre Season Scouting
Scouting now is an excellent idea. Yes, you definately want to be as scentfree as you can make yourself. Camo is an option. You don't want to lay human scent around a big bucks area or you may push him out before you get a chance to hunt him. Your best bet if feasible is long range scouting. Get up on side hills, if available, to scout your areas with binos, or spotting scope or from a vehicle. The less pressure you put on an animal, the calmer he or she will remain and stay in their comfort zones. Spreading your scent around is a sure way to alert an animal to pressure and the said animal may leave the area for a more secure one.
Early season scouting is a great tool to pinpoint this years prospects, but be careful not to bump the animal too many times.
