You probably need to carefully consider the backdrop to your shot. Even a perfect hit is liable to exit the animal with very substantial energy and residual damage potential.

Just another thought, is using a .50 BMG something the anti-hunter crowd can grab hold of to make hunters look bad? I don't know, but if I were considering an unorthodox hunting tool I would take this into consideration.
