Default RE: Deer Drives NJ

I don't think hunter's should try and ban any style of hunting in NJ. Get the ball rolling, who knows where it would stop. I live in this area. by a canoe and kill some monsters if you think its needed. I guide a piece of ground that butts up to the salt marsh and state ground and there is aways lots of shooting, dogs and men in the field. From Sept. thru April, still see deer al the time. They are marsh deer and yes thier big and different. Us local men take our boats out and set in small island, always see or shoot nice deer. It's hunting. These same drives push deer to hunters that would not likely see anything.

I no longer hunt NJ for Deer, but my father does so this post is for him.

My father has either sex permits for zones 28 and 29. He only hunts public ground. From what he has told me, either he or other he knows have seen the WMAs he hunts driven hard by local clubs. Most of these lands border salt marshes. Hence, the deer not killed are driven deep into the meadows, only to emerge long after dark.

Its time to put an end to this madness. I have nothing against a small push with 2- 4 hunters trying to move some deer in ther favor, but these massive drives have to end. Esp on public land. From what I've read, the DEP Commish isnt a big fan of hunting. Maybe now is the time for a NJ resident who's fed up with this method to act.

Im not saying a drive ban should be state wide. If you own property, or lease your land out and think hunters moving through like the Nazi's through the Arden in 1944 killing everything in sight is cool, so be it. But hunters who rely on public land for hunting shouldnt be subject to this kind of hunting tactic.

Just my 2 cents.
