RE: where to hunt?
I've had good luck calling them at night on the fringes of wooded areas. We use a spotlight and stand out in the field about 40 yards from the edge. Start calling and use the light to highlight the eyes. They will come from the wooded area on the run, sometimes to within a few feet of you. We killed 1 grey fox at about 15 feet.
We also have driven thickets. My buddy would stand on the downwind side with a shotgun. I would wait till he was set up and move to the upwind side and slowly walk through the thicket. Let the wind carry your scent through. That will drive the fox and yotes out.
I also shoot them on the snow out in the open fields by using binoculars to spot them and then planning a stalk route to get within gun range.
