RE: Allegany County New York
I've hunted Allegany county for many years. It has great potential (state's record typical and non-typical both come from this county). However, the older deer are few and far between. I've seen a few monsters taken, but considering the number of deer taken each year, it's darn few. 99.9% of hunters in this area, shoot first and ask questions later.
Land prices can be fairly cheap. That's because it's one of the more depressed areas of the state. Low population and very few jobs. The price you were quoted seems inline with other prices I've seen. An awful lot depends on the individual piece of land. It is a beautiful area and if you don't mind having nothing but juvenile bucks to shoot at, you'll probably love it there.
