Default RE: 300 Weatherby vs 7 mm REM MAG

As much as I love the 338 as THE classic all around 1 gun for the North American continent, I must confess my love for the original "super 30" the 300 WbyMag. From a handloaders table you cant convince me that a 200grain Xbullet fired stoutly from a 300Wby wont do anything a 338 with a 250 will do, you just cant convince me.

If price is no matter, then go for it. With the cost of todays premium standard mag ammunition (Fed Prem/Vital Shok, Win Sup, Hornady etc) vs the cost of Weatherby ammo for the 300 and below, there isnt that much difference anymore.

A full boat 300Wby from a throated gun is MUCH more gun than the 7Rem ever thought about being. Theres just no comparison. Sure the Wby whomps on you more, but be a man and take it. Gonna shoot BIG guns you need to act like a BIG boy!

One thing about the 338 vs the 300Wby, EITHER will be a fine gun. Personally if I were picking a BIG bear gun it would be a .375 H&H for work under 300yds and a .378 Wby for longer shots. But seldom will you shoot a BIG bear that far. Its just to dangerous and many guides wont let you do it. THEY are the ones who have to wade in and sort the pieces out if he doesnt fall at the shot. You can NEVER kill a pissed grizzley (and they ALL become that way as soon as you put a hole in them) too dead!!!

Good luck,
RA
