I have a 300 Win Mag and I have hunted hill country deer and IMO it is too much gun fr them. No matter which bullets I used there was always massive tissue damage and blood shock. I guess it would be ok if you have to make a lot of long shots, otherwise if you plan on this being your primary rifle for hunting Texas hill country deer, I'd have to say there are much better choices available. Now, if you are looking for a rifle that you may use to go hunting elk or larger game and just wanting to add another gun to your collection, then I'd jump all over it.
