I'm in upstate NY and 24. This is off topic from what you guys are talking about but i wanted to put in a similar opinion. I am the only 1 out of roughly 15 friends who hunt anymore. When we were in high school we used to put in good efforts hunting, mostly small game though. Now that the years have passed they all have gf's and party and do not want to get up early to go hunting. I have a gf and the first one i have kept threw hunting season for 2 years in a row now. They rather go to a party then wake up to go out hunting. Everyone i hunt with for the exception of 1 person all all in there 40's or older. I know some kids that are 14-17 and they wont get out of bed early for turkey or deer hunting. Some kids never get a deer and lose interest fast and others just plain give up on hunting like my friends. If i remember correctly the 03-04 hunting season was the first year in roughly 20 years that NY saw an increase in hunter numbers, not sure of the 04-05 year. I dont talk to many people who are hardcore hunters or really go out and give it 100% and make it out when they can come hunting season like I do. Besides corrupt wildlife management going around i think that times are changing and people are changing and hunting isnt looked at by the younger generations as it is by older hunters that been doing it for quite a few years.
