Your right 308. But it seems it must wear the magnum name or have 5000 lbs ME to do the job on today's much tougher big game.
It's getting tougher all the time. Here's this years recommended minimums:
Crow, squirrel & rabbit = 30-06 or 7mm Rem.Mag.
Antelope = 300 Magnum
Deer (whitetails) = 338 Mag.
Deer (mulies) = 375 H&H
Elk = 416 Mag. (Rem. or Rigby)
Moose = 460 Wthby.Mag.
Elephant = 50BMG
These ought to do, for a year or two
Oh, and BTW, for those big bears, carry some GRENADES!
