I agree with Dan - Clovers would work fine for your area - try to plant By mid-June at the latest or After Aug 15th for your area if fall planting. Clover should get 6 weeks growth before the first hard freezes.

Almost any northern plot will work for you - corn, oats, and soybeans too for example.
