I never heard of putting Catwiskers through the string.
I use either thread of a nock point to tie/clamp the catwisker to the string and then pull it apart just like making a spinnerbait.
I never have snow or ice problems.(I live and hunt in Ohio and we have plenty of both <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> ) No string damage because the wisker is around, not through and easy to replace in the field.
