Default RE: 17 hmr rifles

Remember, recoil is nonexistanton this little round, but it does have to hold zero from one day to the next. On my 22lr's i run 3-9 x 40's in "solid" rings. your not going for something outragous. I run leupolds on my prairie rat rifles, ziess on my seven mag, and simmons on my 22's. I have a friend who had a BSA on a 22-250. this was 4 years ago, and when we compared it to the leupold that another had on a rifle, we swore never to save money on glass again. there was no comparision for optical clarity. However, both rifles were 22-250's and the scopes both handeled that minute recoil fine. several hundred shots a day didn't phase the bsa in that case. On that note, the first scope I had on my seven mag was a simmons Pro 50, never again. I love my simmons on little guns at close range, not on anything big.

It also depends on the range which you plan to shoot it. Out to 150, 200 yards, optical clarity isn't as much of an issue. Light gathering might be considered, but again maybe can be down played. what are you shooting? pop cans, paper, gophers, prairie rats, or rabbits?

Also, price has alot of weight in this equation. Can you afford a 500 dollar scope, and is it right to put a $500 scope on a $250 gun?

finally there is the "looks" of the whole package.
