RE: a name for your gun
I use an old side by side 12 ga. for birds, made by Montgomery Wards that was bought by my dad in the 60's. I call it "bird dog". This gun throws an awesome pattern and has killed more pheasants than all my other guns combined. When I was about 10 years old I was hunting with it and lost the forearm in some thick briars and never found it. That was more than 35 years ago. I looked everywhere and could not find a replacement forearm so I made one for it. It killed my first gobbler in '96 and numerous ducks, geese, pheasants and quail. I bought a Mossberg for turkeys but whenever I hunt other birds its the gun I pick up first. It is a bird "dog"!
