Default Recipe for warmth

Read alot questions on here about staying warm so I'll give you my recipe so to speak. First off I'm a great believer in the Army surplus store, wool and polypropylene .

First layer -Army Issue polypropylene expedition weight thermal under wear. Thin layer polypropylene socks.

Second layer- A heavy duty army wool sweater and wool pants.

Third layer- which is carried in my back pack until I get to my stand. Either my waterproof heavy thinsulate coveralls. Or my thinsulate coveralls and parks. Sometimes I'll also carry the wool sweater in my pack.

Head-Also carried to the stand. I wear a heavy knit cap with a fleece bavalka(sp).

Gloves-Two pair of mitten gloves. The one I wear the other I tuck inside my outer layer and I rotate the gloves throug out the day.

Boots one pair of wool socks over the polypropylene and I wear Army Issue Mickey mouse boots.

I stop on and get dressed away from the stand. I have problem staying warm hunting or ice fishing with this set up.Another trick is to take a couple hand warmers and put one over your heart and one in the crothch area, just not directly on your skin.
