Default RE: English Setters

nice!! they are known as "THE grouse dog" as they were primarily used for grouse in england. the good ones are hard to beat for pointing upland birds in thick cover. the only downside is that they are hard to train to retreive from what i've read. if possible, check the lines on the parents. are they proven hunters? llewellen strain by chance? the lewellen setters are ideal as i understand as some "game" has been bred out of some setters by the show crowd. nonetheless it will be a very good family dog and they are handsome.

i've thought about getting an ES in the future as a compliment to our GSP. make sure you are ready for that responsibility though, they are very active, need lots of excercize(leash walking is not enough, recommends at least 2 miles daily preferably running) and pretty rambunctious. they are pretty big dogs.
