RE: External Elk calls
idahoelkinstructor,I get to see my daughters on Monday. I haven't seen them since July, I can't wait, spoiling them pretty good this x-mas. I am heading to Nebraska this Oct. to hunt with Jerry Sanford(stealthman on here). He is coming out in Sept to hunt elk with me. I used to hunt white-tails all the time growing up in NY. It will be fun to chase them a bit. I know we have white-tails out here but it will be cool to hunt someplace else for a change. As for the browns, hopefully next year or the year after. I will be going with a guy on here that you see from time to time ,his "computer handle" is kodiman.
gselkhunter, that yardage judging really helps the hunt doesn't it. I still use a rangfinder when I hunt but there are times that you need to make a fast decision and it really helps to know the yardage. I practice all the time on the riverpath that runs by my house. I take my rangefinder and practice on benches, garbage cans, telephone poles etc. It really has helped my confidence in the woods. The first bull I ever shot at I used my 50 yard pin on a 20 yard bull. At that time I couldn't remember if I needed to use the top or the bottom. This whole elk hunting thing has been a huge learning experience through the years. I don't think that one can ever stop learning more about elk and hunting in general. There is always something new out there.
Everyone, thanks for sharing your knowledge, I can't wait to take some of it in the woods with me this year.
