Alaska IS great hunting, but not what a lot of people expect. First of all, we basically have two highways up here. That's it, and they don't go very far. There are not a ton of county roads, and most of the best places to hunt have only plane access.
Crowding is an issue, especially from non-residents. Getting away from the crowds is expensive. You really will not be making weekend hunts for caribou and probably not for moose if you live in cities connected to the road system. It can be done for moose but it's not cheap.
A boat and I mean a real, honest to God, deep-V or semi-V ocean or big river 20-ft or bigger, four -wheeler (or even better an Argo) or an airplane helps a lot. Other guys who live in the villages don't really have that problem, but if you have never been to a remote Alaskan village, you probably would not want to live there.
