A heightened deer population not only destroys valuable plant life, but actually hurts other animal populations significantly, some songbird populations dramatically. Whitetail love to browse, and to many deer in a given herd, eat all foods from their head height (or higher) down. These foods contend with the songbird population and ultimatly hurt a given songbird species.. usually Cardinals, Blue Jays, etc.

More importantly a high deer population can contend with the honeybee. It is essential that honeybees thrive. A weakened honeybee population, through cross-pollunation is extremely important to mother natures food chain. EXTREMELY.

Remember, hunting is just not a way to put food on the table. Controlled hunting balances all of nature. Basically it sounds to me like you just have way to many deer. IF YOUR DOG STARTS TO RUN OUT OF FOOD, THAT DOG WILL START TO EAT ANYTHING IT CAN FIND EDIBLE.. UNTIL IT DIES.
Once the deer have exhausted their food sources, they will begin to eat everything else. This new food source WILL be the bark of the trees, your backyard flowers, even your garbage. These foods are low in essential nutrients which help a deer in winter to survive, help maintain quality genetics etc. If a high population of deer exist, they WILL eventually exhaust their good food sources and WEAK DEER, WEAK GENETICS, AND A WEAK DEER HERD WILL EXIST. Maybe these reasons don't strike fear into you.. since a population of 40-50 deer per mile will naturally decrease on its own. But a weakened genetic herd will thrive disease, and the deer will die in a most INHUMANE WAY.... MOTHER NATURE! Mother nature will cause weak animals to die in winter, still born fawns, and weak genetic lines. These bad genes will lead to worse deaths and much disease!

Unless the ANTI'S wish to bring back the wolf, controlled hunting is the most HUMANE DEER POPULATION CONTROL that SCIENCE has ever found effective.
