Default RE: Homemade Deer Lures/Baits?

This trick will work well on your land but I tend to do it on public land to create a secret spot. I find a remote stand of nut trees like acorn and fertilize them heavily. The spike fertilizer for trees works well but get the cheap stuff as you will need a lot to make this work well. If you do it in the spring the acorn crop from that section could triple and bring the deer along with it.
I would also fertilize the field edges with both blood meal and bone meal and follow it up with a general purpose long duration granular fertilizer. The brush in that area is heavily browsed by deer especially early in the year when they're still growing antler mass under the velvet. That area will also grow thick to provide cover that deer like.
It's creating a food plot that you didn't have to plant but will still feed deer nutrition during the growing part of the season and the hunting season. The best part is that other hunters almost never recognise the area for what it is but the deer sure will.
