RE: Bucks in NY??
I agree with Doughboy....it's a nocturnal thing. The farm I hunt in Tioga County was beaten to death by Turkey hunters. No matter when you sat for bow, guys were walking all over the property, looking for birds. I still saw and passed on 6 or 7 smaller bucks. Finally saw a decent 8 the last Thursday of bow and missed him. Saw a total of only 8 does all bow season on that farm, thanks to the DMAP permits. The farmer has filled over 50 in the last 2 years. Actually saw about a 150 class 10 Pt. with my spotlight before going in one morning on the farm. My one and only sighting. The last Saturday of bow I harvested a 175lb 8 Pt from property in my neighborhood. Real nice rack, well worth the wait. I also passed on 6 smaller bucks around the house before that. I actually never saw a doe from any of my stands around the house....just bucks. We consistantly had 6 does in garden every night. I just don't hunt right IN my back yard. As far as gun goes, opening day I missed a 4 pt. I missed a doe. My partner shot a spike. We saw no other deer that day. Second day I shot a 3Pt. Saw a nice 8 a week ago Sunday(11/28) and one lone doe. Since then, nothing! Except that I now consistantly have only 5 does feeding in my yard every night. And they come out late. The sign is there, but no deer during daylight. A few of my neighbors got Deer early, then gave up. This might be the first year in a long time that I don't fill a doe permit.
Anyway....I agree with Doughboy. The Deer are still there. It's just a nocturnal thing!
