RE: ballistic tips
bigcountry, I still feel good about the TSX load I worked up for my .300 Wby. I specifically wanted such a bullet due to the fact that close range shots are common for me and I believe a bullet this stout is needed in these situations.
However, in the .30-06 and 7mm mag there's no need for such a bullet I don't think. I shoot 165's in the 06' at about 2800 fps MV and in the 7mm mag I generally use 160's at about 2900 fps. BT's should perform fine for me in these rifles.
I worked up a 140 gr. TSX load for the 7mm mag (Sako) and it's really accurate, but with these reports I've read, I'm now having second thoughts about using it on whitetails. I am going to try it, though, to find out for myself.
