RE: PA Hunters complain too much!
andesman; I've been bow hunting in Pa since 1960, along with most every state that has whitetails ,elk, moose and several Canadian provinces. I have several bucks, 2 bou an a moose that would make the "book" if making the book meant anything to me.
Once you spend some time hunting several states with whitetail populations you rapidly loose faith in the PA Game Comm., take my favorite bowhunting state Montana as an example. Limited habitat that is borderline at best but tons of deer an many mega bucks, look at ANY Canadian western prov. good habitat and tons upon tons of deer with world record deer. Point is MANAGEMENT is the key not lowering deer numbers. Pa has the habitat to support the amounts of deer hunters wish to see and still grow big racks. Age= big racks not buck to doe ratios.
What Alt should be doing is keeping antler restrictions, leaving doe tag numbers at 1 each per year, implementing larger shotgun only seasons, try shortening seasons in certain WMUs and increasing them in others. Along with different opening days in WMUs. Why don't you ,here him mention any of this?????????? could it be the $$$$$$ the doe tags bring to an agency plauged by lack of it???????????
I raise deer and have 50 in an enclosure. The genetics thing is always stressed as a male thing, when in fact the female are more important. Any buck can grow nice antlers with age but without quality genetics of the doe you're wasting your time trying to grow mega bucks.
